Analytics

DoIT continues to leverage data associated with campus technology adoption by students to define and promote effective course design practices. Blackboard interactions (i.e., clicks on content) have been shown to be an effective proxy for user engagement that inform predictive analytics to support student success.

The campus analytics community is supported by DoIT’s Analytics and Instructional Technology groups, as well as Institutional Research, Analysis & Decision Support (IRADS).

Course Engagement / Instruction and Teaching

Access reports about online course engagement:

  • Are the students in my classes logging into Blackboard and accessing the material in my classes?
  • Are students using mobile devices to access course material?
  • What can I see about how an individual student is using Blackboard in each of their classes?
  • What are the top 50 Blackboard most-active courses?
  • What is the student activity by instructor and course?

Learning Analytics Community of Practice

UMBC’s Learning Analytics Program is a community of scholars interested in using analytical data to advance student achievement and success. The program has two parts, a community of practice and a competitive mini-grant program supported through the Provost’s Office.

Most Active Blackboard Courses

To highlight the instructors promoting outstanding student Blackboard use – and not as an indicator of course quality – we regularly publish the top undergraduate courses, by Blackboard student interactions, at the end of Fall and Spring Terms.
