Undergraduate test-optional admissions policies have been around for decades and have been successful policy mechanisms for expanding access to four-year institutions. The pandemic afforded higher education an opportunity to explore it more broadly since standardized testing was inaccessible. In this session, Shannon Tinney Lichtinger, UMBC's recently named Director of Institutional Research, will share how UMBC adopted such an admissions option for academic years 2021 and 2022. What did this mean for the diversification of the incoming class? For student performance? What are the implications for supporting student success and completion?
