Description
The 2023 Maryland OER Summit will bring together faculty, students, librarians, instructional designers, and administrators from across all of Maryland’s postsecondary institutions to explore the contours of open pedagogy, from philosophical questions it raises about power in the classroom to practical questions about how to jump into the practice. At the heart of the conference is the question: what happens when students and their collaborators—peers, faculty, community members, librarians, and more—drive knowledge creation?
Hosted at Salisbury University, the day will be a mix of session types, from workshops to panel discussions, with an emphasis on participant engagement, reflection, and application. Select sessions will be streamed concurrently via Zoom.
For the event, we are framing open pedagogy as an approach to teaching and learning that emphasizes the use of open educational resources (OER) and practices that foster equity, inclusion, collaboration, and innovation, with the goal of learners exercising agency as creators of knowledge and contributors to the wider world. Through the conference sessions, the conference will aim to showcase what open pedagogy looks like in a range of contexts–undergraduate and graduate education, in different disciplinary and interdisciplinary settings, in the co-curriculum, and multi-institutionally.
Keynote Speaker:
Robin DeRosa
Director of Learning & Libraries
Plymouth State University
A national leader in open pedagogy, Robin DeRosa is director of Learning & Libraries and the founder of the Open Learning & Teaching Collaborative at Plymouth State University, part of the University System of New Hampshire. The Open CoLab is a dynamic, praxis-powered hub dedicated to innovative teaching and learning and a community-driven approach to academic professional development with a focus on instructional design, open education, interdisciplinary learning, and increasing the public impact of the academy.
An advocate for public infrastructures and institutions for higher education, Dr. DeRosa partnered with Plymouth State University students to create The Open Anthology of Earlier American Literature and she has written numerous articles and thought pieces about open pedagogy, equity and access in higher education, and digital pedagogy.

The 2023 M.O.S.T. Summit is being hosted by Salisbury University and co-organized by SU and M.O.S.T.
