Description
Culturally responsive teaching in higher education, according to Every Learner Everywhere in the 2020 blog post, “Curricula that Account for All Students: A Look at Culturally Responsive Teaching in Higher Ed,” attempts to confront and remove equity gaps by viewing students’ cultural knowledge as an asset and then scaffolding that knowledge to the concepts being taught. Culturally responsive teaching values students’ diverse experiences and backgrounds. Faculty can build a curriculum that resonates with their class on a deeper level by drawing from their students’ languages, cultures, and life experiences using a research-based approach and data-informed insights (WGU).
In this free webinar from WCET (WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies), panelists will discuss strategies for implementing culturally responsive teaching and learning, as well as digital learning considerations, including the following:
- What exactly is culturally responsive teaching and learning and what does it look like?
- Why culturally responsive teaching is a journey rather than a destination.
- Ways technology can foster collaboration and promote cross-cultural empathy among students to foster a sense of global citizenship.
- Frameworks for culturally responsive pedagogy and examples of practical implementation.
- How culturally responsive teaching cultivates a sense of belonging and how this positively impacts the student experience.
