Inclusive Teaching: Math Accessibility for STEM Equity
International Ally Group Monthly Meeting
Location
Online
Date & Time
September 26, 2024, 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Description
Math and STEM accessibility is a common concern with many angles of approach. In the next meeting of the International Ally Users Group, colleagues from Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering will explore the critical importance of making mathematical content accessible, offering practical strategies and tools to ensure that equations and symbols are equitably conveyed to all students, including those with disabilities.
Instructional designers from JHU will highlight math as a language and how to "speak math" accessibly, including the visual, auditory, and symbolic content in equations. They'll include a table of math languages, tech tools, creation methods, and outputs as a decision tree to create accessible and accurate equations.
